You could duplicate your wireshark test with a bios client to see if it downloads that. Now I think you said that bios clients boot correctly. If the client was given the wrong then of course you would not see that in wireshark since its a unicast message between two endpoints. That is also given in part of the ProxyDHCP dialog. While its possible, but not likely the client is being told the wrong IP address of the WDS server. Even if the WDS server doesn't have the tftp server running you should still see a connection from the target computer's given IP address to the WDS server. If you load the tftp client feature into windows 10 you should be able from a cmd window request that file from your WDS server. That is telling us the ProxyDHCP process is working correctly. So its great ProxyDHCP is sending the uefi boot loader name. That is part of the pxe boot rom and not depending on what type of boot loader you are getting. You should see two initial tftp connections the first one the pxe booting client should as the tftp server for a file size, then in the second request it should ask for the file once the block size is determined. I do have UEFI boot kernel set up on WDS.įor the pxe boot protocol (udp port 69) it has to use tftp to get the boot loader, so tftp is the only supported protocol by the pxe rom. However, in the proxyDHCP ACK, I see the boot file name: boot/圆4/wdsmgfw.efi being sent, that is the correct boot file for UEFI windows. I tried a TFTP filter on Wireshark but didn't see anything. The WDS server knows this because of dhcp option 94 in the dhcp DISCOVER packet from the pxe booting computer.

So the WDS server will send the correct file name based on the type of pxe booting computer. Or to say it another way you can't boot a uefi system with a pxe boot loader intended for a bios based computer. Bois (legacy) and UEFI systems use a different boot kernel respective to their firmware format. Lastly, I don't know WDS so I can't tell you where to go, but you do need to enable uefi image support inside WDS or it won't know to send the uefi boot kernel to the target computer. This information will come from the ProxyDHCP conversation. It would be interesting to know what file name the client is being told to download. This is done over a unicast message so you will need to either run wireshark on the WDS server or have a mirrored port setup. You will need to run wireshark on the WDS/SCCM server to see the next bit because after the proxyDHCP conversation you should see a tftp request to the WDS server. You are seeing the ProxyDHCP requests after the DHCP server ACK packet. Since you are seeing a dhcp offer from the wds server its seeing the dhcp discover from the client. Your dhcp/pxe boot process appears to flow correctly. I don't use WDS so I can only speak from networking terms.
